UK Vaccine Supply Problems 18/03/2021

The sudden announcement by Secretary of State Matt Hancock about the reduction in vaccine supply has taken everyone by surprise. As a vaccination centre, we had been told to expect plentiful vaccine supply during April and have been inviting people for appointments with this expectation. We had no warning before the announcement of this change yesterday. We were told to immediately stop any first dose appointments for people under the age of 50 years without other risk factors. We are really sorry that some people invited for appointments have not been able to book but the decision making on this is by the Government and not by our practice, or the NHS locally.

What we can do, is reassure anyone who has an existing appointment that we have sufficient vaccine available to vaccinate you so please keep your appointment if you have one.

For anyone who is due their second or booster vaccination, we are assured by the Department of Health that there is sufficient stock held in the UK to meet all second doses at 12 weeks from the initial dose. If you are due a second dose we will contact you to ask you to book in as soon as we have confirmed dates for vaccine delivery. As these are being done in turn, some people will already have booked second dose appointments as we have some confirmed dates for the first delivery of the second dose supply.

I appreciate people have been concerned about whether there is an increased risk of blood clots from having the Astra Zeneca vaccine. UK health experts have looked at the data and found no evidence of any increased risk of clots from the vaccine. I am not a vaccine expert but I have looked at the data and our expert’s reasoning appears absolutely sound to me too. I would urge everyone to have a Covid-19 vaccine when their turn comes.

We will keep you updated as soon as we know more.

Remember: hands, face, space still applies and will help keep you safe.

COVID-19 Vaccine Scam Email

We’re seeing reports of scam emails that invite users to input their bank details into a fake NHS website to confirm their COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

The NHS will never ask you to share bank details or pay for a vaccine. For me information please click here.
